The Donna Reed Show, an ABC situation comedy which aired from 1958 to 1966, portrayed the life of an American suburban family. Iowa native Donna Reed (1921-1986), is cast in the series as Donna Stone, an unselfish and resourceful housewife and loving mother.

The series also starred Carl Lawrence Betz (1921-1978) as Dr. Alex Stone, a pediatrician; Michele Ann Marie "Shelley" Fabares (1944-2026) as Mary Stone, Paul Petersen (born 1945) as Jeff Stone, and Patty Petersen as Trisha. In the last three seasons, Bob Crane and Ann McCrea joined the cast as David and Midge Kelsey, the Stones' neighbors.

Though the show espoused inherent conservative values, Donna Reed herself was a Hollywood liberal.
