Troy Edwin Nehls, born April 7, 1968 (age 58), is a police officer who served as the sheriff of Fort Bend County, Texas. A Republican, he is the current U.S. representative from the state's 22nd congressional district, taking office on January 3, 2021.

Nehls announced on December 17, 2020 that he would join other Republican representatives-elect in demanding an investigation into the 2020 election fraud.[1]

U.S. House of Representatives

2020 U.S. House election in Texas' 22nd district

Nehls announced in early December 2019 his run for United States House of Representatives to replace retiring Republican Pete Olson.[2] A possible RINO who opposes Donald Trump[3] in terms of immigration, he ran against conservative activist Kathaleen Wall in the Republican primary,[4] who has advocated for punishing China over the coronavirus.[5] However, he opposes defunding the police[6] and promotes law enforcement.

After winning the primary runoff over Wall, Nehls removed his public support for Trump from his campaign website.[7]

Facing Democrat Sri Kulkarni, who has previously been arrested for cocaine,[8] Nehls won the general election to succeed Olson in the increasingly liberal district.[9]

Political positions

Nehls has vigorously attacked the 2nd Amendment.[10] However, a major gun control group still spent a large sum of money to attempt defeating him in the 2020 election.[11]
