Valparaíso is a Chilean city and port. The National Congress is located in the city since the Augusto Pinochet Military Government.
It was an important port during the Spanish Empire times, being the main port of Chile to this day. In the 19th Century, the city was prosperous and was very important for the British Empire since it was easy to store merchandise in the city. The British influenced a lot the city, even creating Football teams like Santiago Wanders.
Today Valparaíso has a Socialist mayor called Jorge Sharp.
