Walking on water
Walking on water is a powerful sign, or miracle, described from different perspectives in the Gospels at Matthew 14:22-34 , Mark 6:45-53 , and John 6:15-21 .
In the Old Testament, at 2Maccabees 5:21 (Douay-Rheims), the suggestion of walking on water is chastised for its arrogance. Moreover, the location (the Sea of Galilee) was known for its turbulent storms.
Peter
Only the Gospel of Matthew describes Peter as also walking on water. It's possible that Mark could not see that from the shore, where he observed Jesus walking on water, while the account in the Gospel of John is abbreviated and John may not have felt inclined to speak of Peter's sinking.
Also, there were healthy rivalries between Mark and the Apostles, and between Peter and John. There were all very human and had their differences.
