William Henry Monk

William Henry Monk (1823 – 1889) was a London born composer of hymn tunes and leading figure in the Anglican choral revival of the mid-19th century. He held various posts as organist and choir master in London. He is most known as editor of the 1861 edition of Hymns Ancient and Modern, for which he wrote the tune Eventide, which, with words by Henry Francis Lyte, became the popular Abide with me.
