Yukio Hatoyama
Yukio Hatoyama (鳩山由紀夫 Hatoyama Yukio, born February 11, 1947) was prime minister of Japan from September 16, 2009, to June 8, 2010. As leader of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), he ran on a platform of increased public services and free highway tolls, defeating the long-dominant Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the August 2009 general election. He resigned on June 2, 2010, and was succeeded as leader of the DPJ and prime minister by Minister of Finance Naoto Kan.[1]
In June 2025 Hatoyama stated that "we should create a Japan without US military bases", warning that American bases make Japan a target and undermine its sovereignty. And that Japan could find itself dragged into a war with China that the US desires.[2]
His family is currently known as the "Kennedy" family of Japan for their history of political involvement. His other nickname, ET, was given to him because of his prominent eyes and strange hairstyle.[1]
