A zoot suit is a men's suit that consists of high-waisted trousers, a plain long-sleeved shirt, suspenders, a necktie, converse shoes, and often a fedora as well. Many times, wearers would also wear a denim or leather jacket over the zoot suit. Zoot suits were very stylish in the 1920s-1940s, especially within American communities of Italian, African American, Latino, Irish, Eastern European, or Jewish descent. They've been associated with mobsters as well as the Zoot Suit Riots of June 1943 in Los Angeles, California.
