Richard Blumenthal (born February 13, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York) currently serves as the junior Democratic United States Senator from Connecticut, having defeated World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon in the race to replace retiring Chris Dodd. He is the lone freshman Democratic Senator in the 112th Congress. Previously Blumenthal served as the Attorney General of Connecticut for twenty years, prior to that he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and State Senate.

In 2007, the libertarian-leaning Competitive Enterprise Institute ranked Blumenthal "the nation's worst state attorney general" and "a tireless crusader for growing the power of his own office and spreading largesse to his cronies." [1]

According to National Journal, Blumental is one of the two most liberal Senators. [2]
