Michael Farrand Bennet (born November 28, 1964) is the junior United States Senator from Colorado and a member of the Democratic Party. He was appointed to the Senate by Governor Bill Ritter to replace now Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. Bennet was little-known in Colorado and his appointment was a surprise. He has voted with his Democrat colleagues 91% of the time. [1] Previously he served an appointed position as superintendent of Denver Public Schools.
Bennet is a candidate for reelection in 2010. Polls in Feb. 2010 show him trailing Republican Jane Norton by 14 points. Norton, who has announced her candidacy, was previously the state's Lieutenant Governor. [2]
