Alberto Nelson "Al Hurricane" Sanchez (July 10, 1936) is an American musician known as the "Godfather of New Mexico music".[1] The style of music he is most known for his Spanish language New Mexico folk musics. However, he is also famous for singing rockabilly, rock and roll, country, Americana, norteño, corridos, rancheras, and folk music; which also happen to be some of the components of the New Mexico music genre.[2]
Career
Al has performed with Fats Domino, Marvin Gaye, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Clanton, and Chubby Checker. His family is very inclined in both music and business, his mother Bennie Sanchez helped bring concerts from the likes of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash to New Mexico, and his brothers Tiny Morrie and Baby Gaby are famous musicians in their own right; Al's children, nephews, and grandchildren are also New Mexico musicians, Al Hurricane Jr., Jerry Dean, Erika, Sparx, Lorenzo Antonio, and Christian Sanchez.
