Freethoughtblogs is an atheist/agnostic blogging community. It was founded by atheists Ed Brayton and PZ Myers.[1][2]
Since 2012, the blogging website has been losing a significant amount of web traffic according to Quantcast which directly measures its web traffic.[3] See also: Decline of internet atheism
Freethoughtblogs and women
Despite the pro-feminism stance of Freethoughblogs, the website has significantly less women visiting their website than men according to the web traffic tracking companies Alexa and Quantcast.[4][5][6]
Freethoughtblogs significant loss of web traffic due to loss of key bloggers
Atheist Michael Nugent wrote:
| “ | PZ’s FreeThought Blogs network eventually imploded last year, with Ophelia Benson leaving after being unjustly labelled a transphobe, and founder Ed Brayton leaving citing the health impact of the drama and stress of running the network. It is now losing traffic and revenue. The departing Ed and Ophelia had accounted for a third of the traffic, and PZ now accounted for 90% of the rest. Another FreeThought blogger, Jason Thibeault, predicted some of the network’s bloggers might now have lean months with zero income.[7] | ” |
PZ Myers' commentary on the web traffic of AIG's ministry
In 2011, the atheist and evolutionist PZ Myers said that he had greater blog traffic than the Answers in Genesis website and that the Answers in Genesis (AIG) website had "pathetic" web traffic.[8] As of June 8, 2016, the Answers in Genesis website receives more web traffic than Freethoughtblogs.[9]

In October 2014, the popular YouTube atheist Thunderf00t indicated that the bloggers at Freethoughtblog accidentally put him on their email list and that they spend a considerable amount of time emailing each other engaging in petty matters. In fact, he indicated that they spent more time emailing each other than engaged in actual blogging. He also questioned the impact of the bloggers of Freethoughtblogs on social justice.[10] Furthermore, he indicated that their attempt to make him a pariah within the atheist community had virtually no impact.[11]
