Bavaria (German: Bayern) is a Land (State) of the Federal Republic of Germany, situated in the south-east of the country. Its capital is Munich. Until 1918 Bavaria was a kingdom within the German Empire; prior to the formation of the German Empire in 1871 it had been an independent kingdom.
Bavaria has the second-largest economy in Germany, after North Rhine-Westphalia. Its main resources are industry (motor vehicles, heavy electrical equipments, consumer electronics) and services (banks, ensurance, tourism, entertainment).
Bavaria is currently ruled by Conservative CSU. The minister president is Horst Seehofer.
