Hutchison was a candidate for the 2010 Texas gubernatorial election, challenging incumbent, conservative Governor Rick Perry in the GOP primary, but was defeated. She did not run for re-election to the Senate in 2012.

Kay Bailey Hutchison is pro-choice regarding abortion, and has voted to express that Roe v. Wade was rightly decided and should not be overturned.[1] Additionally, Senator Hutchison is a strong and active proponent of stem cell research that involves the killing of human embryos.[2] However, Hutchison has voted for restrictions on abortion such as supporting the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.
