Whoopi Goldberg, born Caryn Elaine Johnson on November 13, 1955 (age 70),[1] is an actress and comedienne. She won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. Born and raised in New York City, she has married three times. Her first prominent role in acting was in Steven Spielberg's 1985 drama film The Color Purple, where she won a Golden Globe Award for her lead performance. She established herself in a notable acting career through television appearances (including a recurring role in Star Trek: The Next Generation as the USS Enterprise-D's humanoid bartender and counselor Guinan) and commercially successful motion pictures.[2]
Goldberg is currently co-host of The View, replacing liberal commentator Rosie O'Donnell.
