The New Revised Standard Version is an update of the Revised Standard Version that was released in 1989. It is the translation preferred by Bible scholars, but it has not gained acceptance among either evangelicals or Catholics.
NRSV is owned by the liberal National Council of Churches. This translation modernized some of the archaic language in the RSV, but it also injected some gender-neutral language and changed the prophesy in Isaiah about Mary, the mother of Jesus, from "virgin" to "young woman."
