To win the seat, Fesi polled 15,546 votes (54 percent) in the nonpartisan blanket primary held on October 12, 2019. He defeated two other Republicans and two Democrats. The runner-up, Damon J. Fesi said that as a state senator, he will work to protect oil and gas jobs in the state, oppose further tax increases, protect the Gulf of Mexico coastline, and fully fund Nicholls State University in Thibodaux and Fletcher Community College in Houma. He is also pro-life.[2]
