Hu Jintao was China's top leader from 2002 until 2012. He was president, chairman of the Military Commission and general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. He succeeded Jiang Zemin in all of these positions. In 2012 Hu stepped down as party leader.[1] Now Xi Jinping rules the country.
Harmonious Socialist Society
Hu Jintao is a champion of the "Harmonious Socialist Society" ideology, which calls for increased rule of law, more respect for individual rights, and solving the problem of the huge income gap between rural and urban residents.[2]
