The Donna Reed Show, an ABC situation comedy which aired from 1958 to 1966, portrayed the life of an American suburban family. Iowa native Donna Reed (1921-1986), is cast in the series as Donna Stone, an unselfish and resourceful housewife and loving mother.
The series also starred Carl Lawrence Betz (1921-1978) as Dr. Alex Stone, a pediatrician; Shelley Fabares as Mary Stone, Paul Petersen as Jeff Stone, and Patty Petersen as Trisha. In the last three season, Bob Crane and Ann McCrea joined the cast as David and Midge Kelsey, the Stones' neighbors.
Though the show espoused inherent conservative values, Donna Reed herself was a Hollywood liberal.
