Ethnic cleansing refers to the targeted removal or extermination of national or cultural group by a government within the confines of a limited or specific territory. Ethnic cleansing stands in contrast to genocide, which is the targeted wholesale destruction of a people group wherever they can be found within the reach of a government implementing such a policy.
