IP movies are movies based on a franchise owned by someone, such as a comic book hero or a remake of a prior movie.[1] For theatrical releases, IP movies have increasingly been the more successful ones. In 2022, the movie Elvis was only one of two non-IP films to surpass $100 million in domestic U.S. box office receipts as of July 17.
