The oldest brewery in the United States is located in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, near a supply of spring water. Owned by the Yuengling family from Germany, this brewery was founded in 1831 and has been conducting tours for the last 40 years.[1] It survived Prohibition by producing "near bears" having only 0.5% alcohol content.

The more widely known Anheuser-Busch brewery was founded two decades later, in 1852, in St. Louis, Missouri.

A list of the ten oldest breweries in the United States has the starting year of the Yeungling beer itself as 1829.
