Yesterday you were arguing Dixiecrats didn't exist after they disbanded, today you argue neocons existed before they were created. RobSGive Peace a chance 16:18, May 16, 2023 (EDT)
- I should've clarified better yesterday: the States' Rights Democratic Party on the national level didn't exist past 1948. To my admission, I forgot that Dixiecrats did exist at the state level, with David C. Treen being a member in Louisiana briefly. —
LT(Matthew 26:52) Tuesday, 16:21, May 16, 2023 (EDT)- Well fine. But Strom Thurmond was not, and none of them served in the US Congress. RobSGive Peace a chance 16:28, May 16, 2023 (EDT)
- As to neocons, you'd probably have a difficult time arguing they existed in the 1960s, the name may have been formulated in the 1970s, wasn't used until the late 1980s and early 1990s, and did not exist at the time of Welch in the 1950s. RobSGive Peace a chance 16:31, May 16, 2023 (EDT)
- Irving Kristol invented the term to separate himself from the violent "New Left" that took over liberalism in the late 1960s. But the "neocons" all pretty much remained Trotskyites. And Bill Buckley was hardly a Trotskyite. RobSGive Peace a chance 16:34, May 16, 2023 (EDT)
- Actually, that's incorrect. To say that "none of them [Dixiecrats] served in the US Congress" runs contrary to the historical reality that there were indeed several Southern Democrats in Congress who joined and publicly supported the SRP, such as Sens. Eastland and Stennis, as well as Reps. Rankin and Hébert. Also, while Treen wasn't a congressman in 1960 as a member of the Louisiana Dixiecrats, he was elected to Congress 12 years later. —
LT(Matthew 26:52) Tuesday, 16:38, May 16, 2023 (EDT)- Oh, you mean Biden's buddies? That would be interesting to document. RobSGive Peace a chance 16:48, May 16, 2023 (EDT)
- Eastland and Stennis? Yes. Rankin and Hébert? I'm not familiar with Biden having any connection to the latter two. —

- (ec) I think you're getting off on the wrong track here.
- In the immediate post-war period, a younger generation who had risked their lives to fight the war (such as Richard Nixon & John Kennedy) quickly came to the realization that they had been lied to during the war by Allied propaganda - that they had risked their lives for [[[self determination]] of peoples, free elections, etc. When those things did not occur, a hardline reaction set in, led by Joe McCarthy.
