Capernaum (currently having the Arabic name Kafr Nāḥūm) is the city on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus was baptized as an adult, performed many of His miracles, and lived the last week of His life before the Crucifixion and Resurrection. It is felt that Peter's home was in this city also. This city probably did not exist during the period of the Old Testament and is not mentioned in those books, but can be visited to this day in the northern part of Israel.[1] The Sea of Galilee is the lowest freshwater lake in the world.

Located on water, it once thrived as a fishing village. Capernaum is about 70 miles north of Samaria, and roughly 80 miles north of Jerusalem.
Capernaum was inhabited between the second century B.C. and about the 13th century A.D.
