Dennis MacAlistair Ritchie (b. 1941) was a key developer of Unix and its programming language C. He is also the co-author of the primary text on C, "The C Programming Language," known as K&R in recognition of Ritchie and his co-author, Brian Kernighan. Ken Thompson assisted Ritchie in developing Unix.
The Linux operating system is the modern version of Unix and Microsoft's Windows incorporated and adapted much of the innovation of Unix.
