Westboro Baptist Church is a cult run by extremist Fred Phelps. Although the church calls itself Baptist, they are not affiliated with any Baptist denomination. The church's members are almost entirely family members and are infamous for their protests and pickets at the funerals of soldiers who died in the line of duty, where they take the opportunity to denounce what they consider to be America's acceptance of homosexuality. The name of their website, which contains a vulgar word, reflects this. Their antics are denounced across almost all spectra of political and religious thought.
Their hatred, and seeking of publicity, goes beyond homosexuality. They also protested the Pope's visit, calling him the anti-Christ.[1]
There are many groups that parody it. For instance, in England, there is a group with the motto "God Hates Fags" with fake bible quotes on their page saying that smoking is bad for your health ("fag" in British English means cigarette). There is also a group called "God Hates Figs", pointing out the scene in the bible where Jesus destroys a fig tree.
