Eric Himpton Holder, Jr (January 25, 1951) is the current U.S. Attorney General in the Obama Administration. He formerly was Deputy Attorney General, serving from 1997 to 2001, in the Clinton administration. Before receiving this appointment, he was the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, appointed in 1993 upon his resignation from the DC Superior Court. During the transition to the Bush Administration, he was temporarily Acting Attorney General. He succeeded Michael Mukasey.
While deputy attorney general, Holder reviewed Bill Clinton's proposal to pardon Marc Rich. [1] Holder did not object to the pardon in spite of the fact that Rich was a fugitive tax evader at the time.
Holder does not believe in the Second Amendment and supported the unconstitutional band on handguns in Washington D.C. [2] On 2/25/09, Holder told reporters that he wants an "assault weapons ban." [3] Second amendment scholar Stephen Halbrook testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee that while Holder was Clinton's deputy attorney general, the Justice Department broke federal law by storing records of firearms purchases. [4]
In February 2009, Holder called America, "A Nation of Cowards." [5]
