The Kea (Nestor notabilis) is a parrot in the family Strigopidae. It is found in the mountains of New Zealand. The bird is a dark green color, with reddish-orange underwings, visible when it is flying. It's name is Maori, for an imitation of its call.

It is renowned for its intelligence, with captive birds being able to solve complex puzzles in a few minutes. It is also considered a pest by New Zealand shepherds, since they sometimes eat the fatty tissue around a living sheep's kidneys.
