Westmorland is a traditional county in north-west England, south of Cumberland and north of Lancashire. The county town is Appleby-in-Westmorland, other towns include [[Windermere], Kendal, and Kirkby Lonsdale. The county is known for Windermere Lake, the largest lake in England.
In 1974, Westmorland, along with Cumberland and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire were combined into a new administrative county, Cumbria. However, the area is still called by its traditional name by its inhabitants.
