The term promiscuous in the old English meant mixed, blended, of haphazard.[1] According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it referred to

“ demonstrating or implying an undiscriminating or unselective approach; indiscriminate or casual[2] ”

However, the definition of this word has evolved to often mean that a person in involved with multiple, mixed sexual relationships. When "promiscuous" or "promiscuity" is used, it typically refers to this sort of immoral behavior.
