Timothy Eugene “Tim” Scott, born September 19, 1965 (age 61), is an establishment U.S. Senator from South Carolina. Despite being a Republican, Scott has at times sided with liberals and obstructed conservative priorities. On May 19, 2023, Sen. Scott announced that he was running for the Republican nomination for president in 2024,[1] despite Donald Trump being the presumptive nominee with a large lead.

He is formerly a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina's 1st congressional district. Earlier Tim Scott was in the South Carolina House of Representatives.

Mostly a conservative who touts traditional values,[2] Scott made history in being the second black Republican to be popularly elected to the United States Senate after Edward Brooke.

In 2022, Scott won reelection to his senate seat by a landslide vote of 62-38%,[3] which was a greater margin than the senior senator Lindsey Graham's 54-44% reelection in 2020.[4] Graham, however, faced an opponent who raised and spent $130 million on that race.

Positions

Conservative positions

A fiscal and social conservative, Scott touted the endorsement of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and defeated the son of Strom Thurmond for the House seat. Scott is the first black Republican elected to Congress from the Deep South since Reconstruction.

The Heritage Foundation has given Scott a lifetime score of 82%.[5] The Family Research Council gave Tim Scott a 100 percent score for his overall commitment to conservative values. Tim Scott admits that Human life begins at conception (and therefore that abortion is murder) and that homosexuality is an immoral choice, though we all can repent.
