The Gaza Strip is a small strip of land 360 square kilometers, and has a population of 1.4 million people, making it one of the most densly populated places in the world.    It was under Egyptian control from 1948 until 1967 when Israel conquered it in the defensive Six Day War.  Israel withdrew from the Gaza strip in August 2005, effectively returning sovereignty to the Palestinian Authority.  In June 2007, the radical militant terrorist group Hamas violently took control of the Gaza strip from the PA.  Terrorists still attack Israel from the Gaza strip with missles, and many countries and organizations do not offer support to the citizens or government of Gaza.
