If you look at Willy's edits, most of them seem reasonable. I would for example point to the Bill Clinton edit which took out what appears to be a swipe at George Bush and replaced it with reasonable material. The Bush and Democrat edits similarly seem fine to me. (Also, I'm not sure it makes sense to give an indefinite block for the single use of profanity but that's a separate issue). I did like the changes he made to the democrat page (and I plan to restore that page), in removing the obvious bias, but he cursed in his explanation of the Bush edit - Commandment #3. There is no room in Conservapedia for obscene language like that. --David R 23:36, 25 February 2007 (EST)

: So, and insults aren't tolerated on Wikipedia either- so you warn the person not to do it again and block them if they do. While larger Wikis can afford to be more picky about editing, we don't have that luxury yes. Also, if you are that concerned about profanity, I suggest you delete the dif and then make the edit again. JoshuaZ 23:38, 25 February 2007 (EST)

Thanks! :) I kind of borrowed from yours a bit and then changed a lot around. I still haven't fully grasped how to use divs in Wiki; my HTML tables don't seem to work very well. --<<-David R->> 00:12, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

::David was exactly right to block this user. The profanity was bad and it was placed in a comment for everyone to see. We're not going to cheapen this website with vulgarity and obscenity. The rules say that can result in immediate blocking, and in this case the blocking is precisely what I would have done.
+
Honestly, I thought it was a programming error that my name was mentioned in his comment. Please forgive, I'm VERY new to the site. I haven't gotten a straight answer on this: Is any variant on the word Sex forbidden on this site?

−
::Disagreements are allowed and encouraged. Vulgarity or obscenity results in immediate blocking, particularly when it is in an entry name, revision comment, or user id. This is a consistently applied rule.--Aschlafly 23:42, 25 February 2007 (EST)

Still, you should not have edited his comment. As for your question, I'm not exactly sure what you want to put up. I suppose a good safety measure is to not write anything you wouldn't like your little brother or sister to see. I don't know what that is for you, but you will certainly know if you cross the line. --<<-David R->> 23:53, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

Talk pages can be placed in Archives, but they shouldn't be cleared. I don't know what user you really are, but last I heard, comments are not supposed to be deleted unless they're obscene. --<<-David R->> 00:05, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

:::: Willy on Wheels' recent edits don't look like vandalism, but vulgarity in an edit remark is not a good sign.

Complaint
−
:::: But, for background, Willy on Wheels was indeed a famous vandal on Wikipedia, so much so that the use of such a user name seems very provocative to me. However, Willy on Wheels m.o. was a "move vandal." Dwight D. Eisenhower would become Dwight D. Eisenhower on wheels, Molybdenum would become Molybdenum on wheels, and so forth. He specialized in moving as many article as he could as fast as possible. This is obviously someone different, but he should certainly be asked about his choice of user name. Please, tell me how my edit violated any of those "Commandments". _Ace

−
:::: P. S. JoshuaZ, you and I are used to the Wikipedia environment, in which (although nobody around here believes it) things like protecting pages and blocking users are taken as very serious business, and are done with the context of rather strict rules which sysops (usually!) follow. It makes being a sysop rather laborious, in fact. It's possible that Conservapedia is right to be less formal.

:::: But I would caution about one thing. Since it is still possible for a blocked user to start a new account, as far as I know, when blocking a user you must not think that you've created an impenetrable shield, but that you are trying to get the user to modify his or her behavior by using negative reinforcement (what they call "a timeout" in the parenting books). Blocks might as well be rather short. They should be long enough for the user to realize that they've been blocked, and to be a little shocked by it. A reasonable user who's been blocked will react by being more careful about their edit comments in future, for example.
+
Please cite the commandment I violated and the Edit that violated it. Also, I think it should be added in the Commandments that conservative bias must be found in all edits. [[User:_Patriot101|_Patriot101

−
:::: But any seriously hostile user will just create a new account and start over. (It's always interesting to try to judge whether new users are re-creations of blocked user by observing their editing styles. It's never possible for an ordinary user to do more than guess at this, of course). Dpbsmith 06:06, 26 February 2007 (EST)

−
:::: P. P. S. Another problem with blocking is that it is reasonably effective on regular editors, who have been around for a while and think of their usernames as a kind of identity. If I were blocked on Wikipedia for a day, I'd wait it out, because I like my user name, there are people who know me under my user name, I'm (foolishly and vainly) proud of having a large number of edits under that name, and of forth. I could create a new account under a new name, but it (sob) just wouldn't be me. This probably applies to most people whose usernames are variants of their real name.

−
:::: But a vandal, who just created the account a few days ago, isn't going to care that much.

Actually, Dpbsmith, the user's IP address is blocked from entering the website at all. Believe me, I already got blocked once :). The only way for the user to get back in would be for him to change his IP address, which I believe is possible. But it takes some knowledge and persistence. --David R 09:59, 26 February 2007 (EST)

: Actually, it is pretty trivial to change one's IP address. For example, if one is using AOL then the IP address changes almost constantly. −
: Thanks, I've cleaned it up, expanded it and taken out the more blunt language. Let me know how it is.
+
A "parody" is to writing what a "caricature" is to sketching. A parody is a piece of writing which imitates its target, but exaggerates or warps it for comic effect. For example, the 1991 movie "Hot Shots!" was a parody of the movie "Top Gun."

−

In the context of Conservapedia, it is the remarks or articles which an insincere user writes, not the user himself. The user would properly be called a parodist, not "a parody." Similarly, one would not say "you are not that good a parody" but "you are not that good at parody." Dpbsmith 05:56, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

In reference to my new image file on musical notes: Please resize it if you can. When I tried to upload a downsized version of the image, the software blew up--and when I put an internal link into the article, telling it to scale the image down, I can't seem to specify a pixel size in the article, as I'm used to doing in CreationWiki. When I do, the software blows up, saying that "no such file or directory" exists. All I wanted was something 290 pixels wide, and in the upper right-hand corner. Lactose intolerance is an example of microevolution, which creation scientists have no problem with. And the claims of the natural selection are supported by reference 2 of the article. You don't have to scrub a sentence just because it has "natural" and "selection" in succession with each other.

I have made a userbox thingy for Juaquin Martinez, as he is a Red Sox fan, and I did use the logo...with the required warning that it might be changed, etc. I am thinking of the possibility that such a logo can be used by a fan as mere fan support for his team, but for that we'd have to check with the owner of the logo. Do you think it's possible? If so, then we could have the real thing displayed on our pages! Karajou 19:30, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Thanks. I was wondering who was asking me this. I did not say they were all true. I am a Christian. I have no reason to say that Christianity isn't true. I believe it is true. But we cannot say that here. It is just too biased. Take for contrast, wikipedia saying that secularism is the only true religion. That would never work. But they hint through every other article that secularism and a god-less humanity is the true religion. Likewise, instead of explicitly stating Christianity is the only true religion, we must hint that it is though our own articles. Your version would instantly turn away anyone from another religion. Christianity should not alienate other human beings. They need this encyclopedia more than we do. --<<-David R->> 00:10, 11 March 2007 (EST)

I agree. The tree really isn't even part of Christmas. Its a decorative tradition from Germany dating back to pagan times and is certainly not central to the Christian faith. Its no more Christian than a Santa Claus parade (which is more about Saint Nicholas and the warping of his story). Sadly, we don't have Jesus Christ parades.

Ha ha David. Great banner!--Aschlafly 00:11, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Thanks! :) I kind of borrowed from yours a bit and then changed a lot around. I still haven't fully grasped how to use divs in Wiki; my HTML tables don't seem to work very well. --<<-David R->> 00:12, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Thanks.

Honestly, I thought it was a programming error that my name was mentioned in his comment. Please forgive, I'm VERY new to the site. I haven't gotten a straight answer on this: Is any variant on the word Sex forbidden on this site?

Still, you should not have edited his comment. As for your question, I'm not exactly sure what you want to put up. I suppose a good safety measure is to not write anything you wouldn't like your little brother or sister to see. I don't know what that is for you, but you will certainly know if you cross the line. --<<-David R->> 23:53, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

The word "parody"

Please forgive me for pointing this out... People are starting to use the word "parody" a little bit incorrectly, and it's starting to grate on me. If your comments were just typographical errors, my apologies.

A "parody" is to writing what a "caricature" is to sketching. A parody is a piece of writing which imitates its target, but exaggerates or warps it for comic effect. For example, the 1991 movie "Hot Shots!" was a parody of the movie "Top Gun."

The parody is the work, not the person who creates it.

Many thanks for the userbox, and to a fan of (and I admit it!) the greatest baseball team in history...but I still love my Tigers! Karajou 23:19, 21 April 2007 (EDT)

Lactose intolerance

I will only say this once, and then move on, and let you decide what to do.

Lactose intolerance is an example of microevolution, which creation scientists have no problem with. [1] And the claims of the natural selection are supported by reference 2 of the article. [2] You don't have to scrub a sentence just because it has "natural" and "selection" in succession with each other.

But I will let you decide what to do. Sterile 09:03, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Red Sox logo Image:BOS Red Sox.png

I have made a userbox thingy for Juaquin Martinez, as he is a Red Sox fan, and I did use the logo...with the required warning that it might be changed, etc. I am thinking of the possibility that such a logo can be used by a fan as mere fan support for his team, but for that we'd have to check with the owner of the logo. Do you think it's possible? If so, then we could have the real thing displayed on our pages! Karajou 19:30, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

I sent a message to the powers that be on the Tigers official website about the fan-use of their logo yesterday. I should get an answer shortly, and I'm thinking that they allow it; this reasoning is based on official fan-sites which support a positive image of the Tigers. If it's a yes, then the same rule may apply for the Yankees...so get to writing them! Karajou 10:32, 25 April 2007 (EDT)

the bad news

This came in my email from Ron Wade, an official from the internet side of the Detroit Tigers website:

"I'm sorry, but use of our marks or logos on the internet is prohibited. Major League Baseball Advanced Media has exclusive internet rights to MLB team marks and logos. The only exceptions are news gathering and reporting sites and only if the use of the logo is in conjunction with box scores or game summaries. (ESPN, Fox Sports, etc.)"

So that means no one can use a baseball logo as a fan on a website. Both your's and mine are different enough to get away with it, but Juaquin's is not. Karajou 18:52, 25 April 2007 (EDT)

Okay, I'd better remove a couple of sports logos off of my page knowing that now. It's probably safe enough, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. DanH 18:58, 25 April 2007 (EDT)

6000 years old?

I'm honestly not in the mood for an argument (major migraine) but could you just sum up how the heck you can think the worlds only 6000 years old?? I don't get it. ThxAtheistKathryn 23:49, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

An idea to build more internet traffic to conservapedia

Wikipedia gives the top 1,000 articles for its website as can be seen here: http://hemlock.knams.wikimedia.org/%7Eleon/stats/wikicharts/index.php?lang=en&wiki=enwiki&ns=articles&limit=1000&month=04%2F2007&mode=view

I think we might be able to drive more http://www.google.com and other traffic to Conservapedia if we make the following articles at Conservapedia better based on the first 100 or so most popular articles at Wikipedia:

- United States

- Columbine High School massacre

- World War II

- Global warming

- World War I

- Adolf Hitler

- Battle of Thermopylae

- Canada

- William Shakespeare

- The Holocaust

- Abraham Lincoln

- Jesus

- Vietnam War

- China

What do you think about starting a Conservapedia improvement drive for these articles? Clearly these are serious subjects that people are interested in based on Wikipedia statistics. Therefore, I believe from a strategic point of view in regards to creating internet traffic to Conservapedia it makes a lot of sense to start a improvement drive in regards to these Conservapedia articles. Why did you delete my page?

I worked hard on that article, why did you delete it? --Protocletos 15:34, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

What if you restored it, and I worked some more on it? Obviously I had not completed it, it is simply convenient for me to work on articles small parts at a time. --Protocletos 15:48, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
Well, which pieces were "said pieces"? I assume you mean the examples, which are vital to the article. If they were not there it would be infintely harder and more tedious to explain what exactly a "Your mum" joke is, and the end result would be just as offensive. (And I fail to see how the jokes could be taken as offensive when they are not directed at anyone.)
Fair enough, you're the boss, I suppose.--Protocletos 15:56, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
Apologies, by boss, I just meant someone whose rank was superior to mine. I agree with what you say and will do my best to clean up the article if you restore it.

User page in main space category

Typically, it is considered good wiki style to not include user pages in main space categories. You have your user page in Category:Anti-secular humanist. Would you consider either removing that or moving it to a User category name space? --Mtur 17:16, 17 May 2007 (EDT)

I am refering to User:David R - not User talk:David R. These are probably included from templates. --Mtur 16:33, 21 May 2007 (EDT)

Perhaps you could help me out a bit

I was writing up a draft dodging article, andd linked out to your Alvin York article. I have written that York changed his mind about filing for CO, your article basically says he was sent despite it. I just do not know the truth, and may have been influenced by Hollywood in my version, so if you are certain or have a good souce, I will be glad to conform my article and resolve the discrepancy. If you get a moment, please get back to me on this. Thanks very much. Leffingwell 17:44, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Theory and practice

Hi, David. I liked what you said [] about theory and practice. I read a couple of university-level textbooks on Communism, and I daresay you are "dead on" about the consistency of theory and practice.

The inconsistency, of course, is between the political promises made to the "working class" before each revolution. Andrew Wilson wrote Communism: Promise and Practice about that.

But the idea of lying to people to get their support is by no means inconsistent with Communist theory, which adopts an ends justify the means philosophy. --Ed Poor Talk 23:09, 4 January 2008 (EST)

Nicely Done

Hey - great job with the quick reverts of that vandal!--IDuan 00:01, 1 February 2008 (EST)

No problem. Good block. --David Rtalk 00:02, 1 February 2008 (EST)
That guy's been adding that dumb banner to various basic science articles for months now. Ugh. HelpJazz 00:03, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Uh oh. If only I still had checkuser, I could find out what other names he used. Then I could revert from there. :\ --David Rtalk 00:05, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Well - luckily his socks are becoming pretty obvious (see the user I just blocked)--IDuan 00:05, 1 February 2008 (EST)
I'm almost curious enough to not block him for a while to see what he actually has to say. Since this "intelligent matter theory" only seems to exsist in his head, I'm curious what it is. HelpJazz 00:08, 1 February 2008 (EST)
He's an obvious parodist - he said on the mastectomy page that the cancer was a result of sin - I'm not letting that guy stay unblocked for any amount of time. Oh and david - can you delete User_talk:NOTASOCK--IDuan 00:10, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Yeah. Must be really bored to add the same thing every couple of weeks. He obviously knows it won't stay if it gets reverted every time. HelpJazz 00:14, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Well, I truly would like to stay and see this vandal out the door, but it is late here and I have some work to do in the morning. I will be back tomorrow. Goodnight. --David Rtalk 00:18, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Uhm

Hey David- I'm reverting your Examples of Bias in CP edit because your removal of words just didn't make sense - like you would leave sentences without endings, I'll re-add the point you made though--IDuan 14:08, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Thanks, I was just about to ask someone to do that. My computer automatically removes words that it finds offensive. Very sorry :(. --David Rtalk 14:09, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Oh not a problem - although you might want to find a way to turn off that setting - especially if your editing that article or history articles (I noticed one of the removals was "KKK" (spelled out)).--IDuan 14:12, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Yeah, I know. Ughh, what a hindrance! --David Rtalk 14:14, 1 February 2008 (EST)

IRK?

Does Conservapedia use an IRC channel for discussion? I am used to this based on my contributions to Wikipedia. --Chevrefuqae 21:54, 26 February 2008 (EST)

I am not totally sure. I have never heard of it before. That may be a question for CPWebmaster or Aschlafly. --David Rtalk 21:57, 26 February 2008 (EST)
There's #conservapedia on freenode, but I don't think CP actually uses it. Absentismens 21:58, 26 February 2008 (EST)
