Rezident is a Russian intelligence term for a representative of one nation’s intelligence service who resides in another nation and directs the operations of an agent network. A resident is the equivalent of a station chief in CIA parlance. An intelligence resident may be "legal," that is, operating under a legal cover, most often as a diplomatic official, or "illegal," that is, operating without a legal cover, under an alias.
A Rezidentura is analogous to a CIA station.
