Fish and chips are a popular British, Dutch, Jewish and Scandinavian fast food and are enjoyed across the world. The fish is a piece of common white fish (typically cod, haddock, plaice or skate) deep fried in batter. The chips are sliced deep-fried potatoes similar to, but more substantial than, french fries. They are traditionally served in paper, seasoned with salt and vinegar.
Fish and chips are traditionally associated with mushy peas but can also be served with a wide variety of condiments and sauces.
