Jerry Lee Carl, Jr., born June 17, 1958 (age 68), is a businessman from Mobile, Alabama currently serving as the U.S. representative from the state's 1st congressional district in the House of Representatives. A Republican, he ran to succeed retiring Congressman Bradley Byrne, who unsuccessfully ran in the 2020 Senate election.

2020 election

Following Rep. Byrne's announcement that he would run for Alabama's Senate seat in 2020 to challenge Democrat Doug Jones,[1] Carl declared his bid for the open House seat.[2] He finished first place in the Republican primary held on March 3, 2020 with 39% of the vote;[3] finishing second place was former state senator Bill Hightower, who polled 37.5%. Since no one garnered a majority, a runoff was held between the two candidates.
