Florence Henderson was the Indiana-born actress who led the first national tour of the famous musical, The Sound of Music, in 1961.[1] She had a phenomenal 65-year career in entertainment and yet was almost completely denied any awards, perhaps because of her conservative principles. For example, she was taught in a Catholic high school across the river in Kentucky, she refused a role by which she would have worn a nun's habit in a disrespectful manner.
She is best known to nearly all Americans as Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch.
