Michael James Haynes (born January 7, 1953 in Dennison, Texas) is a former National Football League cornerback for the New England Patriots (1976-1982) and Oakland Raiders (1983-1989). He was voted to the Pro Bowl nine times in his career and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997 and the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. Haynes entered the NFL in 1976 when he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round (fifth overall) of the 1976 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he was both a sensational cornerback and punt returner and was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and was also voted to his first Pro Bowl. In his entire NFL career, he intercepted 46 passes and returned two for touchdowns. Years after retiring from football, in 2002, he was named Vice President of Player Development for the NFL.[1]
