The "Religious Right" was a term given to Christian conservatives in the late 1970s and early 1980s who became active in politics. A more common general term is "social conservative."

People on the "Religious Left," a newly founded movement because of its electoral value, argue that the focus of religion should be on political issues that may violate the Separation of church and state, rather than focusing excessively on moral issues.

The religious left are declining in terms of influence and conservative Christianity is growing in influence due to the fact that the religious left in Christianity are losing many members and conservative Christianity is growing especially overseas.[1][2][3]

Criticism

The religious right have been accused of focussing excessively on moral issues as opposed to the Biblically-valued issues of poverty and social justice. Also, some of the moral positions they support have been criticized. For instance, whilst most Christians agree the homosexuality is immoral, many would argue that homosexuals deserve equal civil rights nonetheless.
