Operation Spring Awakening

Operation Spring Awakening was the last major German offensive operation of World War II. The operation began in Hungary on March 6, 1945, and was spearheaded by Waffen SS troops, including Adolf Hitler's bodyguard division, the SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler.
The Germans achieved some success early in the offensive. On March 16, Soviet Union forces of the Red Army led by Marshal Fyodor Tolbukhin began a large counterattack. The Germans were driven back, suffering many casualties and by March 30 the Soviets were advancing from Hungary into Austria. Hitler was angered by the failure of his troops and the success of the Soviets.
