David Davis

David Davis (March 9, 1815 â June 26, 1886) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and a senator from Illinois. On the Court, his most famous opinion was the Court's majority opinion in Ex parte Milligan - where David condemned then President Abraham Lincoln's (who Davis had campaigned for in the election of 1860) establishment of military jurisdiction over civilians in peaceful areas.[1]
