The tetragrammaton is a sequence of four Hebrew consonants that refers to the unspeakable name of the Creator. In English, it is often given as YHVH. Both "Jehovah" and "Yahweh" represent attempts to vocalize this sequence. Jews believe that the Lord's true name is unspeakable until the arrival of the messiah and the restoration of the Temple in Jerusalem.
