A Compound fraction, also called a complex fraction (although it has no relation to complex numbers), is a fraction whose numerator and/or denominator is not a whole number. Examples of compound fraction include: <math>\frac{\tfrac{8}{9}}{\tfrac{6}{7}}
- <math>\frac{7\tfrac{8}{13}}{15}.</math> The can be simplified by multipling the numerator by the reciprocal of the denominator. Example:Â :<math>\frac{\tfrac{7}{5}}{\tfrac{4}{5}} can be simplified by: tfrac{7}{5}\times\tfrac{5}{4}=\tfrac{7}{4}.</math>
