A vow is a solemn and binding promise or oath.
To take a vow, is to swear solemnly; to make an oath.
In addition to marriage or monastic or priestly vows, an example of a vow is: "I, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
