David Brat
David Brat (born July 27, 1964) is the Republican Congressman for Virginia's 7th District. Brat shocked the nation with his historic defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the June 2014 Republican primary after being outspent 40 to 1. Prior to politics, he was a Director of Economics at Randolph–Macon College.[1] His campaign message was simple, run on the Republican party platform that Cantor had ignored. In the 2014 Midterm Elections, Brat defeated his fellow faculty member Democrat Jack Trammell.
In 2016, Brat faced a primary challenge from Mike Wade, Henrico County Sheriff, but Wade withdrew before the primary.[2] [3]
David Brat's upset victory over Eric Cantor led to the creation of the verb Cantorize.
