ClamWin™ is a free, open-source anti-virus program. It is based on the ClamAV™ engine, which is also open-source. ClamWin is fairly popular, as it boasts 600,000 daily users worldwide.[1]

Advantages

  • Free of charge, freely usable, and open-source
  • Scan scheduling[1]
  • Automatic updates[1]
  • Context (Right-click) menu integration[1]
  • Addin to Microsoft Outlook which scans e-mail attachments as they arrive
  • A portable version is available

Disadvantages

  • No real-time guard--regular scans are needed[1]
  • Some complain about poor detection rate, although their website boasts the opposite[1]
  • Slow scans
  • Fewer virus definitions than some other options[2]

Notes

  • Although there is no real-time scanner, it is rumored that the next big release will include thie feature.
