Bavaria (German: Bayern) is a Bundesland (federal state) of the Germany, situated in the south-east of the country. Its capital is Munich. Until 1918 Bavaria was a kingdom within the German Empire; prior to the formation of the German Empire in 1871 it had been an independent kingdom.

Bavaria has the second-largest economy in Germany, after North Rhine-Westphalia. Its main resources are industry (motor vehicles, heavy electrical equipments, consumer electronics) and services (banks, ensurance, tourism, entertainment).

Bavaria is currently ruled by the conservative CSU. The minister president is Markus Söder who is preceded by Horst Seehofer. In April 2018 minister president Söder ordered Christian Crosses to be Displayed on All Entrances to Government Buildings in Bavaria.[1]
