The Foreign Direct Product Rule imposes regulation in the United States certain foreign-made goods which use U.S. technology or software.

In 2020, China's massive Huawei has been the greatest focus of this Rule, as the Trump Administration sought to restrict shipments of semiconductors to it.[1]

In addition, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) started in April 2020 the process of closing the U.S. operations of three Chinese-controlled telecommunications companies, purportedly due to national security risks. The FCC also blocked Google from using part of an 8,000-mile undersea telecommunications cable for communication with Hong Kong, while allowing it for transmissions between the U.S. and Taiwan.
