Months following Loebsack's announcement that he would not seek re-election in 2020,[2] Miller-Meeks announced in early October 2019 her run for the seat.[1][3][4] She won her party's primary with a plurality of 58% of the votes cast,[5] and will face Democrat Rita Hart in the general election.[6] Hart has been backed the DCCC,[7] and Miller-Meeks received the endorsements of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy,[8] Sen. Joni Ernst,[9] as well as a law enforcement coalition.[10]

A debate between Miller-Meeks and Hart was held on October 8, 2020.[11]
