Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States, holding 28,945,000 acre-feet of water as fed by the Colorado River and supported by the Hoover Dam. The diminishing flow of the river has caused the water level in Lake Mead to drop to historically low levels.

Lake Mead was created in 1936 when the Hoover Dam was completed.
