Telesur
Telesur is a news network and TV channel made by the Marxist dictator Hugo Chávez and with collaboration of Evo Morales, The Marxist Cuban Regime, Nicaraguan Regime and formerly the Argentinian and Ecuatorian left. The editorial line is aligned with the far-left from Latin America, Iran, Russia and BRICS. It was founded on 2005 and has played a significant role in the cultural subversion on the Hispanic countries.
On July 24, 2014, Telesur, the Latin American television network founded by the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, launched an English-language news website.
Telesur, funded by Venezuela and other allied governments, has been both criticized as a propaganda tool and praised for in-depth regional coverage. While it currently has no plans for an English-language TV channel, it employs around 100 English-speaking journalists, mainly based in Quito, Ecuador, to support its digital-first strategy.[1]
On 2013 Telesur started being aired in part in Cuba, Cuban Dictator Raúl Castro urged journalists in Cuba to enhance the quality and creativity of their reporting. However, despite these calls, the Cuban media has shown little progress toward greater independence, continuing to operate under strict state control.[2]
In 2016, Argentina’s government, led by President Mauricio Macri, announced its decision to withdraw from Telesur. Argentina, which held a nearly 20% stake in Telesur, cited a lack of financial and editorial influence as the main reason for its departure. Communications Minister Hermann Lombardi stated that Argentina had been excluded from decision-making processes and criticized Telesur for its lack of pluralism, describing it as a politically biased project.[3]
Telesur had flourished under Argentina’s previous leftist administration, led by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, but relations between Argentina and Venezuela cooled significantly after Macri, a center-right conservative, assumed office in December 2015.
